Daily Prospect Report: March 10

Games of March 10

Hitters:

Nick Castellanos, Tigers: 3-4, HR, 4 RBI. Castellanos continues to slug, hitting his second homer of the spring. He has four extra-base hits in 29 plate appearances.

Steven Moya, Tigers: 3-6, 2B, 3B, 4 RBI. Moya is a huge human with elite raw power, but the hit tool is in serious question.

Stephen Piscotty, Cardinals: 1-1, HR, 3 RBI, BB. Outstanding bat and arm for right field. Limited power potential, but the bat will carry.

Jurickson Profar, Rangers: 1-4, HR, RBI. Profar is knocking the ball around the yard well this spring, which is good news as he prepares for a starting role.

C.J. Cron, Angels: 2-4, RBI. Cron has elite raw power but struggles to barrel the ball consistently.

Pitchers:

J.R. Graham, Braves: 1 IP, BB. Graham has very heavy life on his fastball, which helps overcome his height and lack of plane. When his fastball is consistently down and heavy, he's very good.

Jason Hursh, Braves: 2 IP, 2 H, R/ER, 2 BB, 2 K. Hursh's long arm action can leave his arm behind his body at times, causing him to miss high and arm-side. When he's in sync, his fastball is hard and heavy, and he can snap off a solid slider.

Kyle Lobstein, Tigers: 2 IP, 4 H, 4 R/ER, BB, 3 K. Lobstein has always had such slow mechanics and arm speed, but he has the stuff to make it as a fifth starter.

Jake Odorizzi, Rays: 2.1 IP, 2 H, R/ER, BB, K. No standout pitch, but he has three good offerings with good command.

Anthony Ranaudo, Red Sox: 2 IP, H, 2 BB, K. Ranaudo would still make most teams' top 10s, but the Red Sox farm isn't like most teams.

Trevor Bauer, Indians: 2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 6 ER, 2 BB, K. Bauer is maintaining very good velocity in the mid-to-high-90s, but he got knocked around silly in this outing.

Mike Foltynewicz, Astros: 2 IP, 2 H, R/ER. He'll hold his own in the majors, but it probably won't be in a rotation.

James Paxton, Mariners: 4 IP, 5 H, R/ER, 2 K. The big lefty is throwing well this spring.

News:

Gary Brown, Giants: Brown is having to reestablish himself as a prospect.

Jonathan Singleton, Astros: Singleton seems to be pressing this spring.

Oscar Taveras, Cardinals: Taveras' outside shot of making the big-league club out of spring training is gone. He's now dealing with a tight hamstring.

Taijuan Walker, Mariners: Walker is scheduled to throw a pen Thursday.

Addison Russell, Athletics: Russell is dealing with a strained hamstring.
