Daily Prospect Report: March 7-9

Games of March 7

Hitters:

Jonathan Schoop, Orioles: 1-1, HR, RBI

Kolten Wong, Cardinals: 3-4, 2B, 2 RBI

Oscar Taveras, Cardinals: 1-3, 2B. Tavares' first spring training game. He followed with right hamstring tightness that will cause him to miss a couple games.

Pitchers:

Sean Gilmartin, Twins: 2 IP, 2 H, 3 K

Marcus Stroman, Blue Jays: 3 IP, 4 H, 3 R/ER, BB, K

Rafael Montero, Mets: 2 IP, H, R, K

Steven Matz, Mets: 1 IP, H, BB, 3 K. Matz has excellent stuff from the left side. If he can stay healthy, he will be a force in the upper levels.

Games of March 8

Hitters:

Matt Lipka, Braves: 2-4. Lipka has generated a little buzz this spring with his athleticism, but the bat needs to play up to advance.

Byron Buxton, Twins: 1-5, HR, 2 RBI. Buxton hit a home run and was greeted afterward by being assigned to minor league camp. He went 3 for 19 in major league camp.

Mason Williams, Yankees: 1-1, 2B, 2 RBI, BB

Billy Hamilton, Reds: 0-2, BB, 2 SB (6). He's fast.

Andrew Susac, Giants: 1-3, 2B, 2 RBI

Christian Vazquez, Red Sox: 1-2, HR, 2 RBI

Joc Pederson, Dodgers: 2-3, 2B, HR, 2 RBI

Pitchers:

Henry Owens, Red Sox: 2.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R/ER, 2 BB, K

Eduardo Rodriguez, Orioles: 2 IP, 3 H, 2 R/ER, BB, 4 K

Tim Berry, Orioles: 2 IP, 2 K

Andrew Heaney, Marlins: 2.2 IP, 3 H, 2 R/ER, K

Noah Syndergaard, Mets: 3 IP, 2 H, 2 R/ER, 3 BB, 3 K

A.J. Cole, Nationals: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 3 K

Archie Bradley, Diamondbacks: 3.1 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 3 K

Jonathan Gray, Rockies: 2 IP, 2 H, R/ER, 2 K

Kevin Gausman, Orioles: 3 IP, H, 3 K

Brandon Workman, Red Sox: 3.1 IP, 4 H, 2 R/ER, 2 BB, 2 K

Games of March 9

Hitters:

Kevin Plawecki, Mets: 1-1, 2B, 2 RBI

Kyle Parker, Rockies: 2-2, 2 2B, 5 RBI

Pitchers:

Matt Purke, Nationals: 2 IP, H

Carlos Perez, Braves: 1 IP, BB, K. If Perez can work with his long arm action and shaky command, he's a major-league quality LOOGY. He worked 91-93 with a sweeping 80 mph slider in this outing.

Erik Johnson, White Sox: 4 IP, 4 H, R/ER, BB, 5 K

Kyle Crick, Giants: 0.2 IP, H, 5 R/ER, 4 BB, K. Crick was said to be overthrowing and couldn't find the zone in the Giants futures game. The stuff is there, but he has to harness it.
