Galindo among newly disabled GreenJackets

The Augusta GreenJackets' recent roster shuffling continued Thursday with disabled list activity.

Augusta center fielder Jesus Galindo was placed on the disabled list with a left quad injury. Galindo suffered the injury while running through first base during Tuesday's 10-3 rout of Asheville. He was immediately pulled from the game.

Galindo has experienced leg issues in the past, which has caused GreenJackets coaching to take a more cautious approach with their speedy leadoff hitter. However, only so much can be done to prevent an injury. He goes on the disabled list hitting .275/.346/.326 with with 46 stolen bases in 85 games.

The GreenJackets also placed infielders Shayne Houck and Stephen Branca on the disabled list. Houck has played sparingly over the past week, starting just once since June 16. He has seven hits in his past 10 games to drop his on-base percentage to .350 despite a 10 percent walk rate.

Branca has been squeezed out of the infield some with the addition of Travious Relaford. Branca has been a versatile defender around the field but is hitting just .234/.300/.314 this season.

Reliever Stephen Johnson was officially activated from the disabled list, but he appeared in his first game Tuesday. He allowed a run on two hits in one inning, but he showed good stuff despite having rusty command.

Relaford and outfielder Shawn Payne are expected to contribute as soon as tonight at Savannah. Both arrived in Augusta on Tuesday night.
