Tuesday, July 23 - 7:05 p.m.
Asheville Tourists (13-16, 51-46)
Ben Hughes (92.2 IP, 5.34 ERA, 4.29 FIP, 12.4 K%, 8.3 BB%, .321 BABIP)
Augusta GreenJackets (14-14, 52-45)
Kendry Flores (100 IP, 3.15 ERA, 2.90 FIP, 24.9 K%, 3.5 BB%, .271 BABIP)
GreenJackets starter Joe Biagini's worst start this season came against Asheville earlier in the season. For the second consecutive night, an Augusta starter is looking for a little revenge.
Kendry Flores allowed a season-high eight runs on 12 hits in four innings against the Tourists in late June, by far his worst outing this season. It was sandwiched by a combined one run allowed with 21 strikeouts in 14 innings against Kannapolis twice.
Flores has allowed four earned runs in his past 20 innings, all four runs coming in his most recent outing against Lakewood. He has double-digit strikeouts in three of his past five starts. It should come as no surprise the right-hander leads the team in most pitching categories.
It's been a tough season for Asheville starter Ben Hughes, who owns an ERA north of 5 with average peripherals. Hughes relies on ground balls and pitching to contact, but a .321 BABIP and hard contact haven't helped his earned run average. The GreenJackets have hit Hughes hard to the tune of 10 earned runs and 13 total in 6.1 innings. He lasted just a third of an inning in a May 4 start in Augusta, allowing five earned runs and eight total.
New GreenJackets additions Shawn Payne and Travious Relaford are expected to arrive close to first pitch, so neither is in the lineup for Tuesday's game.
