Sunday, July 21 - Augusta 3, Asheville 2
Augusta starter Martin Agosta has been snakebit to epic proportions this season.
Agosta went on the disabled list in early July with what was termed a tired arm. He skipped one start, returned July 5, and threw four-plus innings before leaving with a blister on his right middle finger.
Agosta sat out for much of July as a precaution. He returned Sunday, threw five-plus innings, and was pulled when the blister returned.
Manager Mike Goff said Agosta is currently day to day with no timetable. The reoccurence of a blister tends to be a more serious injury than the initial blister, but time will tell how the San Francisco Giants approach this.
Goff said Agosta was scheduled to throw 70 pitches. He was fine through 69, but the 70th pitch was a slider that brought the blister back.
Before getting pulled, Agosta looked very good in five-plus innings, allowing one single and one unearned run with two walks. He struck out five and induced nine swinging strikes. The most promising aspect of Agosta's start was the use of his changeup, which he showed more confidence in, and the pitch resulted in a couple funny swings. It showed good separation and arm action.
GreenJackets third baseman Mitch Delfino continued his hot hitting with two hits, including a double. He now has a double in five consecutive games and two hits in each of his past three games.
Delfino faced former California teammate and Asheville starter Matt Flemer, reaching twice on a single and walk against him. Delfino said he played behind Flemer for three years at Cal, and that proved beneficial in knowing Flemer's stuff.
GreenJackets catcher Ben Turner went 2 for 4 with an RBI. Joey Rapp added two hits, including a hard double off the right-center wall.
