Tuesday, May 28 - 7:05 p.m.
Hickory Crawdads (28-21)
LHP Luis Parra (8 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 1 BB, 6 K)
Augusta GreenJackets (28-22)
RHP Kendry Flores (48.1 IP, 2.61 ERA, 3.32 FIP, 19.8 K%, 5.2 BB%, .243 BABIP)
The GreenJackets will face a rare left-handed starter in Parra, a Dominican signing who made his stateside debut in 2011. The 21-year-old has made two starts this season, allowing just one run and one walk while striking out six in eight innings. He's a slim 160 pounds on the roster, but the numbers indicate he knows the strike zone fairly well and can get a strikeout when needed.
Augusta will counter with Flores, who backed up 8.1 scoreless innings against the Savannah Sand Gnats with four runs in six innings against the Rome Braves last time out. With the exception of one start, Flores has been stable this season, allowing more than four runs in just the one outing against the Greenville Drive in early May.
Much of the Hickory lineup is prone to chasing spin away, and Flores has a breaking ball capable of holding the Crawdads in the park. Flores isn't afraid to spot inside then work away to left-handed batters, and how his changeup fares against the likes of Joey Gallo is one of the bigger questions tonight.
Offensively, the GreenJackets should look forward to facing a lefty with their righty-heavy lineup. Jesus Galindo and Matt Duffy have put up big numbers against left-handed pitching this season, and hitters such as Mitch Delfino and Andrew Cain are capable of going yard against them.
