Friday, May 17 - 7:05 p.m.
Savannah Sand Gnats (22-16)
RHP Robert Gsellman (14.1 IP, 9 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 7 BB, 7 K)
Augusta GreenJackets (23-16)
RHP Joe Biagini (18.2 IP, 6.27 ERA, 2.88 FIP, 23.6 K%, 12.4 BB%, .357 BABIP)
Gsellman made two starts for Advanced-A St. Lucie, allowing three runs in nine innings. His most recent outing was his first at Savannah, allowing one run in 4.1 innings against Rome.
Gsellman was a 13th-round pick in 2011 out of a Los Angeles high school. The 19-year-old right-hander has shown some control issues in his limited work sample since being drafted, while his strikeout numbers have yet to make up the difference.
Augusta's starter is a fellow Californian, attending UC Davis and getting picked in the 26th round of the same draft. Biagini's peripherals have been solid, which is the reason for the large discrepency between his ERA and FIP. His walk rate is fairly high, but he makes up for it with a good strikeout rate, and he keeps the ball on the ground pretty well.
Biagini's BABIP is also very high in his small sample, and as it regresses to the norm, so should the ERA.
Biagini's last two outings have been his worst to date, allowing a combined 10 runs - eight earned - in 4.1 innings. He has failed to go at least five innings in each of his past three starts.
