Saturday, May 4 - GreenJackets 11, Tourists 9
This game was messy both in the skies and on the field. The game was delayed 40 minutes by rain, and once it started, the rain came down even harder. The players were slipping, balls were slipping out of hands, runs were being walked in and errors were made.
At one point, Asheville's entire infield lost a ball in the sky. It landed at the second baseman's position, a good 20 feet from the nearest player.
So you can't take a lot from this game - especially early on. Good swings were made on both sides, though. Asheville's David Dahl roped two balls, one for a triple off the base of the wall in right, and the other by the third baseman on a fastball away. He also showed speed, stealing his second base of the season.
Tom Murphy extended his hitting streak to 13 games with two hits, including a double that was roped down the third-base line. Murphy showed excellent bat speed from a compact swing to get around on the pitch, and he also showed good speed.
GreenJackets manager Mike Goff is rewarding Eric Sim's recent hitting by keeping him in the lineup; he was DH tonight, picking up three more hits. He has four hits in his past 11 at-bats, including a home run and three RBI.
Shayne Houck is also getting on base more lately, going 3 for 5 with two RBI, including the go-ahead RBI single in the seventh. He has four hits in his past nine at-bats, including four walks.
