Iron Men

Ricky LaRocca of Oakland, Calif. competes in the car deadlift Saturday, March 26, 2011 at Wildwood Park in Appling, Ga. Athletes from around the country competed in the American Strongman Corporation's 2011 Southern Strongman Challenge. About two dozen competed with the top amateur and professional picking up pro cards to the next tournament. Events included the yoke walk, log press and car deadlift among others.

The first time I ever witnessed a strongman competition was on ESPN 2 at 1:00 a.m. as a young teen.

When the assignment came my way I was pretty excited.

It's a marvel what the human body can do. I was amazed seing a human deadlift the back end of a Buick in-person.

Has it inspired me to hit the gym? Yes. But it hasn't inspired me enough to attempt to lift my own car :)

Enjoy the pics!
