ASU 77, Barton 61, Southeast Regional semifinal, FINAL

We're a few minutes from the 7:30 p.m. tipoff. As you know, USC Aiken won the early game. Now, it's time for ASU to see if it can join the Pacers.

This doesn't appear to be a sellout tonight. Typical Sunday crowd. But this thing will be loud. Someone's going to lose an ear drum tonight.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 11, Barton 4, 16:05 left until halftime

Siler opened with consecutive dunks.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 13, Barton 6, 14:24 left

How's that for a fast start? Greg Hire has five points, Siler has 4 points and 2 boards. ASU's inside game taking advantage of a smaller Bulldogs squad.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 16, Barton 6, 11:22 left

Bulldogs going to the line for two free throws. ASU shooting 58 percent from the field and passing the ball around nicely.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 23, Barton 10, 9:03 left

Barton's L.J. Dunn just picked up his second foul. That's huge. Siler has 8 points. Fred Brathwaite has 7.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 25, Barton 12, 7:52 left

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 31, Barton 20, 4:54 left

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 33, Barton 21, 3:46 left

Siler is like Gulliver in the land of Lilliput. He is using his size and abusing Barton in the paint. He just made a layup and will go to the line to convert a three-point play. He has 11 points already.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 41, Barton 24, 1:48 left

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 43, Barton 26, HALFTIME

What a half for the Jaguars. They shot 60 percent from the field. Siler has 13 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks and just 1 foul. Brathwaite has 13 points. Team leading scored Ben Madgen only has 8 points.

ASU is 11-for-12 from the foul line, while Barton is 5-for-8. ASU is winning the rebounding battle, 21-10.

Barton was held to 35 percent shooting.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 48, Barton 26, 17:37 remaining

Madgen opened the half with five points.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 51, Barton 28, 15:54 left

Madgen just hit another 3. ASU by no stretch is playing perfect. The Jaguars have 11 turnovers. But they're shooting 60 percent from the floor. They look like a much different team tonight than they did last night.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 58, Barton 33, 13:17 left

Dixon just canned a 3-pointer from the corner. Jaguars playing outstanding on both ends of the floor. Madgen has 16 points, Siler has 15 and Brathwaite 13. ASU shooting 61 percent from the field.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 58, Barton 40, 12:00 left

Bulldogs have scored seven straight with Siler out of the game. He's back.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 60, Barton 40, 11:36 left

All the air just got sucked out of the building. Ben Madgen just went down with an injury. He's grimacing. He appears have to injured his right foot/ankle. He's limping back to the training room.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 63, Barton 49, 9:00 left

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 63, Barton 51, 8:11 left

Madgen's back on the bench with ice taped to his right knee. Let's hope this isn't serious. Madgen's taken the ice off. Will he return?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 66, Barton 51, 7:31 left

Smith just drained a huge, and I mean huge, 3-pointer with :01 on the shot clock. That stopped the bleeding.

It appears Madgen just has a bruise.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 66, Barton 51, 6:49 left

Madgen returns.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 68, Barton 53, 4:11 left

Jaguars just turned it over again. They've committed 18.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 70, Barton 56, 2:34 left

Jaguars can smell the Sweet Sixteen. Bill James says it's a 72 percent probability now for an ASU win.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 71, Barton 56, 1:42 left

This thing is over. Jaguars are going to the Sweet Sixteen. ASU to face USCA at 7:30 Tuesday night.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

ASU 77, Barton 61, FINAL

Siler had 19 points and 7 rebounds. Madgen finished with 18 points. Brathwaite had 13. Dixon had 10.

Great half of basketball by

Great half of basketball by the Jags. Now we just can't fall asleep with a big lead as we have been wont to do this year (Bowie State, GCSU, Francis-Marion, Tusculum, etc.).

The Bill James Lead

The Bill James Lead Calculator says this one's 40 percent over. I wonder if ASU professor Joe Campbell would agree?

58% now. But those were also

58% now. But those were also Hillary Clinton's odds for the presidency this time last year.

Chris, 2 things.  First of

Chris, 2 things.  First of all, thanks for doing a good job with this. It's a great way for us who can't make it to know what's going on at the game!  Secondly, please don't say "ASU by no stretch is playing perfect.".  That is my pet peeve!  It should read "ASU by no stretch is playing perfectly."!  "Perfectly" is an adverb, on the word "playing".  You ask yourself "How are they playing? They are playing perfectly!...or in this case NOT perfectly!".  Okay, enough of that English crap!  Just my pet peeve, okay?  I guess I'm a nerd!  Ya'll don't jump on me about it!  I'm off my soap box!  I feel I've done my part to educate you all! LOL!

Went just like I predicted

Went just like I predicted last night. Barton just couldn't match our size. They

couldn't shoot that well from outside, and could get it inside very often. Now,

it's on to USC-Aiken Tuesday night. ASU will win then too, because the Jags are

just too talented top to bottom, including our bench players, who also contribute

a lot..Aiken's good. It'll be close. But, again, they will come up short again. I'd

say it'll be ASU 78, USC-Aiken 71...GO JAGS!!
