The final game of the regular season means nothing in the standings, and no one single game will make or break the career of a professional athlete. But there is something the GreenJackets have to play for today.

The San Francisco Giants first arrived in Augusta in 2005 when the GreenJackets became the organization's Single-A affiliate. Since then, every GreenJackets team has posted winning seasons. That's seven years in a row of winning baseball. If the GreenJackets don't win today, that streak is over.

Augusta is 69-69 this season. One rain out earlier this year wasn't made up, so there's no .500 possibility. It's either a winning season or a losing season. Manager Lipso Nava has emphasized the importance of finishing a season strong even if there's no shot at the playoffs. So far, this team has not heeded his words.

The bullpen blew the game Saturday night. Defensive errors and a lack of hitting kept the team out of the game Sunday. They'll try to avoid the sweep today with right-hander Paul Davis on the mound. Charleston, which has now won 10 of its last 11 games, will counter with Bryan Mitchell, who lasted just one inning the last time he faced the GreenJackets. He gave up three runs in a loss Aug. 17 in Augusta.
