Black History Essay Contest and Banquet - Each February, The Augusta Chronicle and the Lucy C. Laney Museum present an essay contest in February for area middle and high school students. Winners in both middle school and high school are selected and the top placeholders have their essays featured in the Black History section of The Augusta Chronicle. All winners and runners-up are invited to a banquet in their honor.

The NIE Spelling Bee - The Augusta Chronicle Newspaper in Education program, in a partnership with Busby’s, hosts a qualifying spelling bee for the National Scripps-Howard spelling bee.
