One of my favorite gifts for the hard-to-buy-for is a skincare or beauty item you know they won’t ever splurge on for themselves.
Sephora is the headquarters for this kind of gift, and they’ve already got mini-sized and gift kits out you might want to keep in mind. One of my favorites for this year is the Perfect Bite Amuse Bouche lip kit from BITE Beauty, which is a $59 value for just $25. It comes in a super cute tin you don’t even need to wrap, and the four mini lipsticks range in shade from a classic red, to a deeper pink, to a nude and a light pink (something for everyone).
Clinique also has great skincare kits in mini sizes that are a great way to share your favorite moisturizer or face cleanser with someone who might not want to go all in on the bigger sizes. These Clinique sets are tailored to skin type, like oily or dry, and come with toner, cleanser and moisturizer, all for just $27.
Gifts at these price points will make anyone feel a little bit spoiled without spoiling your budget.
WHAT’S NEW. If you’ve downloaded iOS 11, you may have noticed that your battery has taken a real hit – needing to charge more often, to an extreme degree.
While there’s no quick fix for this, be sure to at least familiarize yourself with what apps are draining your battery the most. In Settings, go to the Battery screen and scroll down to see a breakdown of what is taking down your charge. It may surprise you. Once you’re aware of this, you may want to edit which apps are allowed to refresh even while in the background. To do this, go to Settings and then General and Background App Refresh to change which apps are on the list.
Another way to improve battery life is to make sure True-Tone is on, which automatically adjusts your phone screen lighting to whatever the natural lighting is as well. That option is right on the Display & Brightness screen in Settings, below the sliding line (it may also be called “auto-brightness”). Make sure that’s toggled on to keep your brightness as low as necessary.
Hopefully the gradual iOS 11 updates can improve this battery issue, but for now, these two are your best bets.
WHAT’S TRENDY. It’s so exciting to be getting close to holiday festivities and there’s no better way to get in the holiday spirit than events at the Morris Museum of Art. Their calendar has a whole month full of programming that will get you in the holiday mood, from a film screening to a craft day, to live music and an open house.
In my opinion, they’re all can’t-miss events, but if you can only do one, make a point to get to the holiday open house on Sunday, Dec. 3. This will kick your Christmas excitement into gear, with a handbell concert, craft activities, holiday merchandise sales, a jewelry trunk show and more.
Everything kicks off at 2 p.m. and admission is, of course, free on Sundays. Get the whole Morris Museum of Art programming for December at www.themorris.org/calendar.
