Be sure not to miss out on the closing acts of the Westobou Festival.
Allen Stone, the headliner of the music portion of the festival, performs Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Imperial Theatre and tickets are just $20.
If you’re looking for entertainment that doesn’t cost a thing, the “Tracing Shadows” exhibit and the “Telephone Game” pop-up are both completely free and open to anyone. “Tracing Shadows” explores the role of art as a means of documenting change, beauty and fragility within the natural world. It was created by Birmingham-based painter Annie Kammerer Butrus and Yuken Teruya, an artist who divides his time between Okinawa and New York. The “Telephone Game” pop-up is like the telephone game (where you whisper messages down the line, hoping the original content doesn’t get too lost), except with art. Each artist has created artwork in this exhibit in response to the previous artist’s work, just like the actual telephone game.

WHAT’S NEW. Did you realize there is a mobile passport app created by U.S. Customs and Border Protection?
Next international trip, download the “mobile passport” app created by the USCBP and by answering just a few questions, you can get all set to move through mobile passport lines instead of the analog lines. It’s only used in a little more than 20 international airports right now, but look up the airports you’ll be traveling through to see if they’re on the list.
The mobile passport lines are almost always quicker than the traditional lines and if we all start using it, they’ll have to make it universal. Only available on iOS for now.
WHAT’S TRENDY. Red is back in a big way for fall, with a deep shade that is a step darker than candy apple, but not quite blood-red. The rich shade is being paired with rich textures, like suede or velvet, and will turn your most unremarkable winter and fall pieces into a show-stopping outfit.
One of the best pieces I’ve seen so far is sold by Urban Outfitters – an affordable real-leather suede moto jacket that will add an edge to a formal look or dress up a casual one. Another great jacket is Rachel Antonoff’s velvet puffer jacket, which looks deep red in some lights and berry in others.
