Garden City Jazz is holding its annual “Par-Tee on the Green” concert and festival on Friday, April 28, at 5 p.m. at the Augusta Common.

The event was rescheduled from Masters Week because of the stormy weather. This year, the Par-Tee will include performances from JAMP (James Brown Academy of Musik Pupils), Eastern Star Dance Theatre, Drum Circle Augusta, Dancing Through the Skirt, The ZFIT Crew Grindhouse Training Studios and more.

Organizers describe the Par-Tee on the Green as a dance party with music for all ages, with styles ranging from beach to R&B. Tickets are just $3 in advance and $5 the day of, and free for children under 3 years old. You can get tickets and more information at www.ParteeAugusta.com.

WHAT’S NEW. There are a lot of confusing and less-than-factual “stories” circulating on the internet, and many of them are so well-written it can be difficult for even a discerning reader to figure out they’re a joke, or worse – a hoax.

The easiest way to check up on claims you read is to just type them right into Google. The search engine has added a feature where if you type in “Malia Obama kicked out of Harvard for drugs,” results pop up with a blurb right underneath showing how solid the facts have checked out (don’t worry about our former First Child – this one is straight up false).

Another good website is Politifact.com: you can type in just about any topic and see various claims and quotes by public figures or journalists, and see how Politifact’s “truth meter” rings them up.

WHAT’S TRENDY. Mother’s Day is a great chance to give the mom(s) in your life a treat that they would never buy for themselves, and that may never cross their shopping paths.

Kate Spade has an adorable pair of “Mama Bear” earrings with the word “MAMA” on one tiny earring and a cute little bear on the other (www.katespade.com).

If your mom likes something more functional and utilitarian, check out FLI Charge’s FLIway40, a charging surface that allows you to charge multiple pieces of technology at once while looking very sleek and space-age (www.flicharge.com).
