Unicode recently released the list of new emojis we will be getting over the course of 2017, and as usual, some you won’t believe we don’t already have, some you won’t understand why we need, and some are pretty fun.
To file under the category of “when would I ever need this?” there is a woman in a steamy room; an orange heart; a curling stone (as in the Olympic ice sport); and a face with a monocle.
Some of the emojis are easier to imagine working into your daily texts: a fortune cookie, a giraffe, a brontosaurus and a face with an explosion (think “mind blown”). Look for these new emojis to drop in a beta version sometime this summer.
WHAT’S TRENDY: If you’re looking for something to do after being on the golf course this week, want to entertain out-of-town guests, or don’t even know what golf thing is going on that’s such a big deal, come out to the Major Rager and enjoy live music by the Flaming Lips and others.
The show is 5 p.m. Thursday on Augusta Common, and tickets are still available, starting at $35. This is a great show and a fun social event. Sponsoring organization Friends With Benefits does great work giving back to community organizations throughout the year funded by proceeds from shows like this.
Go to www.FWBpro.com for information and tickets.
WHAT’S AFFORDABLE: Be sure to check out deep discounts going on right now for boots, coats and other cold-weather pieces. I know it’s hard to motivate yourself to shop for anything other than springy styles and colors, but you will thank yourself next cold season when you have a brand new piece that you got for a steal.
My favorite places to keep an eye on for deep cuts are ShopSpring.com and Shopbop.com, where you can usually get free shipping and always get wonderful customer service. Both let you sort by discount, so you can limit your search to only things 70 percent off (or whatever your ideal discount is).
