Shopgirl: Google+ stays in the picture

This one really surprised me – Google+, the social media platform that wanted to combine everything from Wordpress to Instagram in one place, is still in wide use and the people who are still using it might surprise you.

Google released some numbers recently, and the most active communities on Google+ range from “Toy Photographers” to “The Art of Bread” (bakers and baking photographers). It’s interesting that there is a significant market out there that is using this platform, and they all agree that the reason they use Google+ is because of how easy the site makes uploading large amounts of photos.

Especially if you use Google Photos as a backup service, the Google+ build really does make it foolproof. This is something that will keep Google+ around until other, more universally used platforms step up to the plate.

WHAT’S AFFORDABLE: Phinizy Swamp Nature Park is hosting a Full Moon Nature Walk on Jan. 27, inviting you to come and see the beauty of the Phinizy Swamp bathed in moonlight.

The walk will begin at 9 p.m. and will be a guided hike at a leisurely pace. Feel free to bring kids and strollers, and the event is just $10 or $5 for Friends of Phinizy. You just need to register at or call (706) 396-1426.

WHAT’S TRENDY: Makeup trends are shifting a little bit from the super-nude contour vibe the Kardashians have made so popular - and I’m excited to see a little more color.

In the upcoming months, look for more vivid lip colors (purples and pinks), such as Anastasia Beverly Hills’ liquid lipstick in Vintage - a purple-berry that really flatters any skin tone.

Another way the dial is moving slightly from basic nudes is that we’re seeing more pastel shades and bright metallics instead of the matte natural shades. Brighten up your eye area with something like Giorgio Armani’s iridescent eye shade 8 Flannel, which has pearly pink and purple tones that will really bring out the sparkle in your eyes.
