Shopgirl: Lip colors are look back at the ’90s

The advent of chokers alerted us all to the fact that the ’90s are back in style, but MAC cosmetics has released a new collection that really leans into the age of Clueless and Heathers.

Their Retro Matte Liquid Lipcolour line is expanding by eight new shades, all reminiscent of what we last saw on the likes of Cindy Crawford and Claudia Schiffer.

The eight shades range from earthy nudes to purple, deep plum, and even a teal. The shades are available right now and only go for $21 each – and they last forever. Find them at Sephora or MacCosmetics.com.

WHAT’S AFFORDABLE: New Year’s Eve is not traditionally the most kid-friendly holiday, but local artist Tara Scheyer and the Mud Puppy Band want to give the little ones in your life a good time, too.

The seventh annual New Year’s Concert &Countdown to Midnight will take place at 11 a.m. Dec. 31 at Episcopal Day School, 2248 Walton Way. The concert will amp up to a countdown to noon complete with noisemakers, balloons, and of course Auld Lang Syne.

The kids will have a great time, and the adults will have the satisfaction of knowing that this concert helps Tara Scheyer and the Mud Puppy Band to perform the rest of the year – many times on a volunteer basis.

Tickets for students are $5 and parents get in free, as well as ages 2 and under.

You can find more information at TaraScheyer.com.

WHAT’S TRENDY: So it seems clear that Instagram Stories are just Snapchat videos with better quality – especially since now the little stickers and add-ons are basically identical.

The “location stickers” are essentially what Snapchatted debuted as geotags, and the emoji-esque “illustrations” that are like the ones in Snapchat – only just holiday-themed as of yet.

The good news is that Instagram videos have handsfree capability (you can push the button to start, and then again to stop recording), and you can also add multiple chunks of text to the video rather than just the one line in Snapchat.

And better yet, there’s no time like waiting around at the holidays for testing out and getting to know the intricacies of new technology.
