Former Westside star Sanders Commings submits name to NFL's college advisory committee

Add former Westside standout Sanders Commings to the list of Georgia underclassmen who submitted their name to the NFL’s college advisory committee. He said it would take a first-round grade for him to enter the draft, which isn’t expected.

“It’s just good to see where you stand as far getting to the next level,” Commings said.

The cornerback joins tight end Orson Charles and safety Baccari Rambo among Bulldogs who have made public their intent to find out more information about their draft prospects.

GEORGIA SOUTHERN: The Eagles’ season ended at 11-3 with Saturday’s 35-7 loss to North Dakota State in the Football Championship Subdivision semifinals – their most wins since 2002 – but still disappointing considering they had advanced to the semifinals a year earlier.

“Missed assignments, missed tackles, turnovers, not scoring when you’re on the goal line, there are a lot of things you can point to (Saturday) and those are just a few of them,” said Georgia Southern coach Jeff Monken. “It’s tough to beat a good football team anyway but if you don’t do those things well, it’s almost impossible to win.”

In Statesboro, Ga., the Eagles overpowered opponents with their lethal triple-option offense. Georgia Southern had 607 yards and 55 points against Old Dominion and 460 yards and 35 points against Maine while posting wins.

Georgia Southern entered the game averaging more than 37 points a game. The Eagles’ seven points were the fewest they’ve scored in a playoff game since losing to Delaware, 16-7, in 1997.

In New Orleans, Brett Baer kicked a 50-yard field goal as time ran out, lifting Louisiana-Lafayette to victory over San Diego State.

Playing in their first bowl game as a Football Bowl Subdivision team, the Ragin Cajuns (9-4) led most of the way but fell behind 30-29 when Aztecs quarterback Ryan Lindley connected with Colin Lockett on a 12-yard touchdown strike with 35 seconds to go.

Louisiana-Lafayette was able to drive to the Aztecs 38 to set up what was initially a 55-yard attempt, but a pre-snap penalty on San Diego State (8-5) moved the winning kick 5 yards closer.

Cajuns quarterback Blaine Gautier passed for 470 yards and three touchdowns.
