Offense dominates scrimmage

ATLANTA --- Jonathan Dwyer ran 70 yards for a touchdown on the second play of Georgia Tech's scrimmage at Bobby Dodd Stadium on Saturday. He finished with 99 yards on 13 carries.


Josh Nesbitt ran the first-team offense, but freshman quarterback Jaybo Shaw made a splash by completing passes for 59 yards to Quentin Sims and 52 yards to Embry Peeples .

Anthony Allen , out this season after transferring from Louisville, had 17 carries for 105 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown run.

SOUTH CAROLINA: Starting quarterback Chris Beecher went 9-for-13 for 123 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions in the Gamecocks' scrimmage at Williams-Brice Stadium.

Backup Chris Smelley went 9-for-18 for 114 yards and two scores, while redshirt freshman Stephen Garcia was 6-for-8 for 67 yards and a touchdown.

Senior linebacker and Thomson Alum Jasper Brinkley suffered a left ankle injury in practice on Friday. It's not considered serious.

Florida State: Running back Antone Smith , the team's leading rusher last season, left practice Saturday because of dehydration. He's expected to return Monday.

SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA: Quarter-back Mark Sanchez dislocated his left kneecap and was carted off the practice field Friday There is no ligament, cartilage or bone damage. He is listed as day-to-day.
