Barbaro and the Buckeyes. There's a daily double of champions I'd take every time.
I have to admit, I have been pretty preoccupied for several months with America's No. 1 horse. But even one of our local mushrooms that has been kept in the dark would know that Ohio State remains the class of college football.
By the time the Buckeyes are done with Florida, they'll be able to hoof it out of the desert as champs - and by a bit more than a nose.
After I performed surgery on Barbaro's broken right leg, I gave him coin-toss odds of surviving. Ohio State's chances at winning it all are better than that.
You don't need much horse sense to figure out this outcome. I'd put Ohio State's odds at 70-30.
But just don't take my word for it.
Ohio is pretty close to the Bluegrass country, where my current favorite patient was born and where Barbaro won the equivalent of a national championship. I figured I would ask his educated opinion since he has a lot of time on his hooves right now.
I gave him a fair choice: an apple in one hand and some grilled gator bits in the other, and the decision came quickly. He figures the Buckeyes are the closest thing he has to a hometown team, plus I think his fashion sense is offended by the Florida colors. Don't worry too much, Florida fans. There's one place Gators can go to lick their wounds. After all, New Bolton is a hospital for large animals. I make it: Ohio State 31, Florida 20.
