Jaguars, Patriots split in baseball


Chase Loyd and Zach Murray drove in a run each as Georgia Regents edged Francis Marion 2-1 on Satur­day in the first game of a Peach Belt Conference doubleheader at Lake Olmstead Stadium.

The Patriots took the second game 4-1.

Kip Custer (5-6) won the opener for the Jaguars (17-28, 9-17), allowing one run on six hits in 8 1/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked two. Tristan Jones pitched two-thirds of an inning to earn his fourth save.

In Game 2, former Lake­side standout Jeffrey Stoner pitched 2 2/3 innings of hitless relief to earn his fourth save for the Patriots (24-20, 9-16). He struck out three. Brandon Stoots (2-1) surrendered one run on eight hits in 6 1/3 innings to earn the win.
