Foreclosures in the Augusta metro area took a nearly 20 percent tumble in August, according to a monthly report by online real estate tracking company RealtyTrac.
There were 321 foreclosures in August for the six-county area, down from 399 the month before. In comparison with August 2011, foreclosure filings were higher than the 261.
Georgia ranked sixth in the nation in foreclosures last month with 9,478 filings, a rate of 1 foreclosure for every 431 homes. In South Carolina, there were 3,156 filings, or 1 in 677 homes.
Nationally, foreclosure filings were reported on 193,508 properties in August, a 1 percent increase from July – and a 15 percent decrease from August 2011, RealtyTrac reported.
