Augusta Sam's Club expansion nears completion

Sam's Club has nearly completed its expansion, adding several new departments and expanding others.

The store at 596 Bobby Jones Expressway has added almost 30,000 square feet, including a pharmacy, optical center, photo lab and a rotisserie section in the fresh-food area, said club manager Corey Coile.

"We're one of the last ones that didn't have many of these (departments)," Coile said.

Outside the store, Sam's Club has added a gas station with 12 fuel pumps and has repaved its parking lot.

The entrance has been moved to the center of the parking lot, making it more convenient for customers, he said.

Expansion of the store's deli and produce departments should be completed by Sept. 30, he said.

The expansion project began in October, bringing Sam's Club to 136,000 square feet.

The retailer has added 30 employees for its new departments and plans to hire several more, Coile said.

Customers don't have to be members of the warehouse club to use the pharmacy or participate in Sam's Club's flu clinics, pharmacy manager Danielle Allen said.

The pharmacy will offer its first flu clinic from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday through Saturday.

Sam's Club will hold its grand reopening ceremony Oct. 20, Coile said.
