Augusta's jobless rate at 9.1 percent

The Augusta metro area’s unemployment rate for February was unchanged from January, the Georgia Department of Labor reported Thursday.

The jobless rate was 9.1 percent, which is also unchanged from February 2011.

Augusta is now even with the Georgia unemployment rate, which has been declining over the last seven months. South Carolina, which has not yet reported its February unemployment, was at 9.3 percent in January.

Columbia County was tied for fifth lowest in the state among counties, despite an increase to 7.0 percent.

Among metro areas in Georgia, Athens had the lowest at 7.0 percent. Dalton was the highest at 12.3 percent.


Burke County: 9.9 percent, down from 10.0 percent in January, down from 10.0 percent in February 2011

Columbia County: 7.0 percent, up from 6.7 percent in January, up from 6.9 percent in February 2011

McDuffie County: 10.6 percent, down from 10.7 percent in January, down from 10.8 percent in February 2011

Richmond County: 10.5 percent, up from 10.4 percent in January, up from 10.3 percent in February 2011
