YANKEES: Struggling left-hander Damaso Marte was placed on the 15-day disabled list with weakness and tendinitis in his pitching shoulder.


Marte had the same problem after he pitched for the Dominican Republic in the World Baseball Classic this year. He is 0-1 with a 15.19 ERA in seven games.

New York recalled right-hander Anthony Claggett from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to take Marte's roster spot. Claggett was roughed up in his major league debut April 18, allowing eight runs and nine hits over 1w innings in a 22-4 loss to Cleveland. He was sent down the next day.

TWINS: Right-hander Jesse Crain was activated from the DL, and catcher Jose Morales was sent to Triple-A Rochester. Crain went on the DL on April 20 with a swollen right shoulder. He is 1-0 with a 7.50 ERA in seven relief appearances this year.

ROYALS: Tony Pena Jr. was placed on the 15-day DL with a fractured bone in his left hand. The team promoted infielder Luis Hernandez from Triple-A Omaha.

ORIOLES: Right-hander Dennis Sarfate was placed on the 15-day DL with a circulatory problem. Right-hander Bob McCrory was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk.
