MARINERS: Jeff Clement will have arthroscopic knee surgery on Tuesday that will keep him out for the remainder of his rookie season with the Seattle Mariners.


The team announced late Saturday night that its catcher of the future has tears in the cartilage of his left knee. Normal rehabilitation time is four weeks, the Mariners said.

- Carlos Silva was scratched from his start Sunday against the Yankees because of stiffness in his back.

Left-hander Ryan Feierabend started in his place.

RED SOX: Recalled right-hander Devern Hansack from Triple-A Pawtucket to strengthen the bullpen.

The team also activated right-hander Bartolo Colon from the 60-day disabled list and optioned him to Pawtucket to start an International League playoff game Sunday. And outfielder J.D. Drew , out since Aug. 18 with a strained lower back, could be activated next week.

ANGELS: Called up right-hander Kevin Jepsen from Triple-A Salt Lake, adding an arm to an overworked bullpen.

Angels relievers pitched 7w innings in Friday's 10-2 loss to the White Sox and 7Q during Saturday's 15-inning, 7-6 loss to Chicago.

INDIANS: Recalled Scott Lewis from Double-A Akron to make his big league debut Wednesday at Baltimore.

Lewis takes the spot of Anthony Reyes , who will miss at least one start with a sore right elbow.
