DODGERS: Shortstop Rafael Furcal has left a rehab assignment with Triple-A Las Vegas and returned to Los Angeles after experiencing discomfort in his back.


- Activated Hiroki Kuroda and optioned rookie left-hander Clayton Kershaw to Double-A Jacksonville.

PIRATES: Closer Matt Capps will be out for close to eight weeks with a shoulder injury. An MRI indicated he has bursitis and tightness that prevents him from getting full extension during his delivery.

ROCKIES: Jeff Francis went on the 15-day DL with shoulder inflammation.

REDS: Shortstop Alex Gonzalez is scheduled for surgery Monday on his troublesome left knee, which will end his chances of returning this season.

MARLINS: Optioned Eulogio De La Cruz to Triple-A Albuquerque.

PADRES: Signed shortstop Alvaro Aristy and right-hander Elvin Tavarez , of the Dominican Republic; infielder/outfielder Corey Adamson , of Australia; and outfielder Luis Domoromo and right-hander Adis Portillo , of Venezuela on Wednesday, the beginning of the period when 16-year-old international players who will turn 17 prior to the end of 2009 minor league season can commit to big league teams.

YANKEES: Alex Rodriguez will skip the All-Star Home Run Derby at Yankee Stadium, choosing to protect his finely tuned swing.

RAYS: Placed closer Troy Percival on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring after beating Boston on Tuesday night.

Recalled right-hander Mitch Talbot from Triple-A Durham.

ATHLETICS: Oakland and prized 16-year-old pitching prospect Michael Inoa, a 6-foot-7, 205-pound right-hander from the Dominican Republic, agreed to a minor league contract with a $4.25 million signing bonus. The A's like his athleticism and he already has a fastball clocked in the mid 90s.

- Placed six-time Gold Glove third baseman Eric Chavez on the 15-day DL because of a sore right shoulder and promoted infielder Wes Bankston .

ORIOLES: Right-hander Matt Albers decided to attempt to rehabilitate his ailing right shoulder rather than have surgery on a torn labrum.

Albers was placed on the 15-day disabled list last Thursday after an MRI revealed the injury.

TIGERS: Reliever Zach Miner was optioned to Triple-A Toledo and pitcher Aquilino Lopez was recalled from the club.
