Carson-Newman tops Lady Pacers

AIKEN --- Ashley Kyle scored a game-high 21 points to led No. 22 Carson-Newman to a 78-64 win over USC Aiken at the convocation center Saturday, the Lady Pacers' final game before heading into the holiday break.


The undefeated Lady Eagles (10-0) would not trail after the 13:49 mark of the first half.

Carson-Newman pulled away over the final 10 minutes of the first half on 17 of 37 shooting, which included making five 3-pointers, to lead 41-29 at intermission.

USC Aiken cut the deficit to seven points in the second half when Lindsay Sundberg hit a 3-pointer to put the score, 52-45, with 12:08 left to play in regulation.

Carson-Newman would answer again however, when Candis Clear hit one of her six three-pointers on the afternoon.

Clear, who entered the contest averaging 5.4 points per-game, finished with 19 points.

Hannah DeGraffinreed led the Lady Pacers (5-5) with 17 points and seven rebounds and one steal.


In Newberry, S.C., five players scored in double-figures to lead Newberry to a win over Paine College.

Julian English and Geno Green scored 23 and 22, respectively, but the Lions shot only 38.7 percent on the afternoon. No other Paine player scored more than six points.

Newberry shot over 64 percent from the field in the first half and took a 19-point lead into halftime.

Ryan Barnes and Jeremee Davis led Newberry with 12 points apiece.

Danny Huffor and Stephane Bakinde each had 11 for Newberry, which improved to 5-6 for the season. The Lions fell to 2-4.


In Harriman, Tenn., John Brown scored 19 points to lead Roane State to a victory over Aiken Tech.

Anthony Rapley scored a game-high 21 points for the Knights, who dropped to 6-8 on the season.

Antrjuan Albright added 13 points for Aiken Tech.
