Group preparing for book sale

Members of the Aiken branch of the American Association of University Women have started organizing for their annual Book Sale on March 6-7.

Brigitte Wilson, the publicity chairwoman of the Aiken branch, said this will be the book sale's 48th year.

"The sale started out at very small stores on Laurens Street. Now it has mushroomed into something large," she said.

The association is a nonprofit organization that works to support women's education. Proceeds from the Aiken branch's annual sale fund educational grants and community projects throughout Aiken.

While the sale mostly consists of books, other items, including magazines, audio books, DVDs and "attic treasures" -- basically items that you would find at a yard sale -- will be available as well.

A special section at the sale will be reserved for collectors' books and recently published books.

Bea Peyser, the president of the Aiken branch, said the group needs donations and volunteers to help with the sale.

The AAUW Book Sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday, March 6, and from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the next day at the old Club Fitness building in Hitchcock Plaza, 401 Silver Bluff Road.

Donations may be dropped off between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturdays or between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Tuesdays until the date of the sale.

Volunteers are needed to help during those hours.
