Car show helps fund Kiwanis Club projects

A popular car show to help Aiken area children is scheduled for Saturday.

"Last year's show, we had a really good turnout. This will be our third year," said Angela Boyette, the chairwoman of the Wish Upon a Car Car Show, which will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Aiken Mall.

Last year's event, sponsored by the Palmetto Kiwanis Club, drew about 100 entries. Ms. Boyette said they hope for more this year.

Cars, trucks and motorcycles will be judged in 13 categories. Other awards will include best of show and best paint job. Registration will be from 9 a.m. to noon, with trophies awarded at 2:30 p.m.

Registration before the event is $15 for the first car and $10 for each additional car. Registration on the day of the event will be $20 for the first car and $15 for each additional car.

The cars aren't the only prize winners on the day. Area car clubs are urged to come out for the event.

"There's a best club trophy and a $100 cash prize," Ms. Boyette said.

During the event, there will be a 50-50 raffle, a disc jockey and numerous door prizes.

The car show raises money for projects of the Palmetto Kiwanis Club, according to Ms. Boyette, who is the club's president.

Proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Head Start of Aiken County and a leadership program for Chukker Creek Elementary School fifth-graders.

"Young children are priority-one projects," she said.
