Jags' special season continues

Augusta State head coach Dip Metress and the Jaguars were honored Tuesday at a meeting of the Augusta commissioners at the Municipal Building. The Jaguars were national runners-up in the NCAA's Division II men's basketball tournament.

Augusta commissioners added another item to the list of accomplishments for Augusta State University's men's basketball team on Tuesday.

Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver designated Tuesday as Augusta State Basketball Day at the commissioners' Tuesday meeting.

Players from the 2008 NCAA Division II Tournament finalist squad gathered in the Augusta Commission chambers to accept the plaques commemorating their day.

Senior Forward Luke Tambon said area fans made their journey to Springfield, Mass., worthwhile.

"I still think about that day almost every hour, but it's good to know that, whether we won or lost, Augusta still had our back," he said.
