In celebration of National Poetry Month, local poet and author Mike Lythgoe will read poetry by National Poet Laureates Charles Simic and Ted Kooser at 3 p.m. today at Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W., Aiken. Call (803) 642-7586.

Free tax service

The Nancy Carson Library will have income tax preparation and electronic filing available free from 10 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Monday and Tuesday by appointment only. Call (803) 279-5767. Bring copies of 2006 federal and state tax returns and current year W-2s, 1099, Social Security card and picture ID.

Book talk

Let's Talk About It, a book discussion group, will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Aiken County Public Library, 314 Chesterfield St. S.W., Aiken. Participants must have registered in advance at the second-floor reference desk; observers are welcome to attend the opening lectures by professors from USC Aiken. My Life , by Isadora Duncan, will be discussed by Professor Suzanne Ozment of the USCA English Department. The program is funded by the SC Humanities Council. Call (803) 642-7586.

Career fair

Making memories

The 55+ Ministry of First Baptist Church of North Augusta will hold An Evening to Remember at 5:30 p.m. Friday in the fellowship hall on the West Avenue side of the church. Planetarium shows

The DuPont Planetarium will present In My Backyard at 7 p.m. and Cruising Through the Constellations at 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday. The planetarium is on the campus of the University of South Carolina Aiken, 471 University Parkway.

Chorale concert

The Masterworks Chorale at the University of South Carolina will celebrate its 10th anniversary at 7:30 p.m. Saturday with a concert at St. John's Methodist Church in Aiken. The chorale will sing Handel's Messiah. Tickets can be purchased by calling (803) 641-3305.

Racing at the pond

The Langley Pond Triathlon will be from 7 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 26, at Langley Pond.

Benefit car show

Golfing for charity
