Food bank has a tasty way to raise funds in Aiken

Several area restaurants will participate in an event to raise awareness of the hunger problem in the area.

The fourth annual Taste of the Harvest-Aiken fundraiser will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 4, at Houndslake Country Club.

"This event has really grown," said Armen Boyajian, the director of corporate relations for the Golden Harvest Food Bank.

Taste of the Harvest has been held in Augusta for 17 years, and each year it is a sellout, according to Mr. Boyajian, who said that a limited number of tickets are still available for the Aiken event.

AB Beverage, Acropolis Pizza Restaurant, Aiken Wife Saver, Amanda's Cafe, Casa Bella, Coca-Cola, Creative Cuisine, CuiZine, Curry Pot, Fatz Cafe, Harvard's Wine & Beverage, Houndslake Country Club, Maria's Mexican Restaurant, Miss Ira's Catering, Papa Russ' BBQ, Red Lobster, The Coffee Guy and The Sweet Cow Creamery will have menu items available for tasting.

The jazz band Air Apparent will provide musical entertainment.

Last year's Aiken event raised more than $24,000 to fight hunger. More is needed because the food bank now serves five more South Carolina counties - Abbeville, Anderson, Greenwood, Oconee and Pickens.

Tickets are $40 each. For more information, call Mr. Boyajian at (706) 736-1199, ext. 212, or e-mail
