A butterfly count will be held at the Silver Bluff Audubon Center from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.
"This is the third butterfly count since the spring," said Paul Koehler, the center's director. "Each time, we see different species."
Guidebooks are available to help those counting determine what types they are seeing.
During the July event, 520 butterflies were counted, with 41 species identified.
There are several counting events at the center. A migratory bird count was held Sept. 15.
"The butterfly count is not well-known," he said. An average of 10 people attend the counts.
Mr. Koehler said he has learned more about butterflies through the counts, and he urges people to attend.
He said such events can monitor trends in wildlife.
