FLORENCE, S.C. - Forwards Tyrekus Bowman and Ben Madgen each scored 15 points and Augusta State used a 25-9 advantage at the free throw line to claim a 79-63 Peach Belt Conference win over Francis Marion on Saturday.
Bowman also grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for Augusta State (16-3, 8-0) as the Jaguars remained the only unbeaten team in PBC play. Freshman guard Daniel Dixon added 14 points, while reserve guard Kip Small scored 11 points and center Garret Siler chipped in 11 points, seven rebounds, and three blocked shots.
The win assured Augusta State of a better record than last year's 15-13 mark, and the 16-3 start is second only to the 18-1 record posted by the 1969-70 squad. The Jaguars are ranked third in the latest South Atlantic Region poll.
Senior forward Raymond Dorsey led Francis Marion (5-13, 2-6) with 17 points and six rebounds.
Augusta State plays host to Armstrong Atlantic State University on Wednesday.
In Florence, junior guard Deo Ngulela scored a team-high 12 points and Augusta State University used a 53-34 rebounding advantage to grab a 61-50 win over Francis Marion.
Augusta State improved its overall mark to 12-6 and evened its Peach Belt record to 4-4, while Francis Marion fell to 5-14 and 2-6.
Augusta State forward Tracey Paschal scored 10 points and forward Shirrell Ford tallied six points and a game-high 15 rebounds. The Lady Jaguars held advantages of 17-6 on second-chance points and 26-10 in points-in-the-paint.
In Langley, Aiken Tech used a balanced attack to dispatch Cape Fear Community College.
Twelve players scored for the Knights, and Gregory Thomas led the way with 12 points. Three other players scored in double figures as Aiken Tech improved to 15-4 overall and 8-0 in Region 10.
