Aiken Tech has easy time of it

AIKEN - Shondre Guest had 18 points and Ashton Wine added 15 as Aiken Tech romped past Wilkes Community College 106-59 on Saturday.


Gregory Thomas added 13 points for the Knights, who improved to 8-4 overall, 2-0 in Region 10.

Aiken Tech led 59-27 at halftime.


In Spartanburg, S.C., the Citadel's Donny McLendon scored 26 points, including six 3 pointers, to lead the Bulldogs to the Southern Conference victory.

The Bulldogs (5-10, 2-2 SoCon) broke a tie at 69 when Vytautas Valiulis hit a 3-pointer from the right corner to give the Bulldogs a 72-69 lead.

The Terriers (5-10, 0-4) cut that to 72-71 when Shane Nichols made two of three free throws after he was fouled putting up a 3-pointer with 31.2 seconds left.

Wofford fouled Kevin Hammack with 21.8 seconds left and he made the second free throw for a 73-71 Citadel advantage.


In Orangeburg, S.C., Julius Carter had 15 points and went 5-for-5 from the foul line to lead South Carolina State to a win against Howard in Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference act Saturday.

The Bulldogs (4-9, 2-1 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) were a perfect 13-for-13 from the free-throw line, which kept them ahead down the stretch.

Howard (6-9, 2-1) controlled most of the first half, outscoring S.C. State 21-10 with 8:40 left in the first half. Darek Mitchell's 3-pointer with 6:37 left in the half put Howard up 26-15.

A dunk by Brian Mason sparked an 8-0 run for the Bulldogs that cut the lead to 26-22.
